UN migration organization expresses concerns over the expanded program.
President Biden’s administration has partnered with the Mexican government to curb illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border by increasing the number of Venezuelans expelled to Mexican border towns. Hundreds of expulsions per week increased to 3,000 total expulsions since the policy was introduced on October 13.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations’ inter-governmental arm for migration coordination, voiced their concern over this expanded policy of asylum restrictions for Venezuelan migrants.
Tents have been set up in Mexican border towns, but they cannot keep up with the mass influx of migrants. “It’s very concerning to see people who are outside the shelters, there’s no space,” Dana Graber Ladek, the IOM’s Mexico chief of mission said.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and administration officials as they work to reform immigration.
- For Secretary Mayorkas to seek God’s wisdom as he heads the Homeland Security Department.
- For agents and officers stationed along the U.S. borders as they attempt to prevent the trafficking of humans and drugs.
